Back to SSSchool!

Last night was my first in classroom experience at Quincy College. I have been so lucky to have been able to take most of my prerequisites for their nursing program online. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to transfer any more classes in, so I had to take this last course, microbiology, at the college. I haven't been in a physical classroom since my last attempt at nursing in 1993 so I was a little apprehensive. The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, with a lab portion on Thursdays. Each class is four hours long, and after last night feels like eight! When I first saw the professor I was relieved to find that he spoke english quite clearly. I have had to drop classes in the past because english was their second language, and they hadn't quite mastered it yet! Well my joy was short lived, because as soon as we got settled, my english speaking professor began to stt.. stt... stutter! Oh my God! Every other sentence takes forever for him to get out! He is really nice, but the stuttering gets unbearable after about an hour. I am also finding that I have trouble sitting that long. My bad back starts to ache, and I get really uncomfortable. There will only be a midterm and a final, and the professor bases everything on his notes that you can download in class to a zip drive, so it seem ridiculous that I have to sit there when I could be at home reading the book and his notes. I really have adapted to online learning and very much prefer it. Thank God it is only for 5 weeks! Well, I better go stt... stt... study!

Just saw Wall-E at the movies. It was very enjoyable!

Happy 4th of July!

Another 4th! They seem to come closer and closer together now. We went to the Walpole Fireworks Spectacular last night. We almost didn't go due to a strong thunderstorm a few hours before, but it cleared up. Walpole puts on an amazing show and we always have a good time when we link up with our friends, Karen and Ron, who always save us a place with the best viewing. Mike's Mom and Dad also joined us, so it was even more special. I am coming along after my surgery. I am so sick of protein drinks, but only have to drink them for a few more days. I can't wait till I am on full solid food, even if it won't be the amounts I used to eat! I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday

Home from the Hospital

Well I made it home! Finally! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I will write more of the experience after I get my strength up. 13 pounds are already gone!

Home from hospital and resting. I have lost 13 lbs!

Feeling so much better! Down to 1 i.v., catheter is out, and I am wearing my own shorts! Woohoo!

Just saw the Doc, we are gonna start liquids If all goes well home on Saturday!

Had a run in with a useless nurses aid..she was assigned to me yet refused to help

Feeling better looks like they won't have to reoperate I probably will start clear liquids today!

Just had my 3rd transfusion if my blood count doesn't rise I will have surgery later today

It has been a tough few days not feeling well after surgery and I am now bleeding from someplace and if it doesn't stop it's back to the or !

Just had my last bit of solid food for at least 2 weeks!

Mom Has The Shingles

Unfortunately my mother has come down with a bad touch of the shingles! It started with shooting pains on the left side of her neck, and now she has red blotches on the side of her face and neck. Her doctor should have recommended the vaccine and she wouldn't be in this predicament. I urge all of you who have had chicken pox as a child to get the vaccine now, before you have an outbreak.

Doomsday is Tomorrow

As many of you know I loved The Bionic Woman as a kid. Lindsay Wagner brought so much to the role of Jaime Sommers. I was cruising the web and I found this great fan tribute to one of my favorite episodes. Now if we can ever get them to release the series on DVD I will be really happy!

Happy Boston Gay Pride!

Today was Gay Pride in Boston. Mike and I hadn't been in the last two years because the weather hadn't seemed to inviting. Today was a beautiful day and we had a nice time. It was really fun to link up with friends that we hadn't seen in a long time, as well as make some new ones! For years I have always headed to Bennigan's after the parade and had their Monte Cristo sandwich. This year was no exception. Although the sandwich is exceptionally greasy and unhealthy, it is definitely a tradition I wanted to follow for another year. I doubt I will be able to stomach it ever again after my gastric bypass next week. It was a sad farewell, but I am sure that I can find much more healthier things in the future!!

Home From Disney

Well we had a great time at Walt Disney World and Gay Days this past weekend. It was a lot of fun and we made some new friends as well as connected with some old ones. The highlight of the trip was Country Bear Jamboree at the Magic Kingdom. when all the bears attend the 1 P.M. show. The attraction is jam packed with bears and cubs of all sizes! We did get a call that my mother was having trouble breathing on the day we were leaving. She was rushed to the hospital and I couldn't wait to get home to see her. My mother suffers from congestive heart failure and she was retaining fluid which was causing her to have trouble breathing. She is home now and is doing well.
