Disneyland 2006 Day One

We made it! It was a long flight out here. I think I am getting too old for long air travel. There is just no room in the seats and they are so uncomfortable. We went to Rainforest Cafe for dinner and it was delicious. We tried the new Tower of Terror at California Adventure and really liked it. It is different from Walt Disney World's but is really fun. We also got a chance to try the new Space Mountain. I like the special effects that they have added, as well as the new soundtrack, but the ride is more fun at Walt Disney World. We gotta hit the hay as we are jet lagged and exhausted. More tomorrow.

Why Did They Cancel Invasion?

ABC Invasion.jpg

I am so mad! ABC has cancelled one of my favorite shows. Invasion. Couldn't they at least give us a few more episodes to finish the storyline?  I always wondered how the show could keep going on with the current plot. It always felt like a mini-series. But to end it on a cliffhanger, is just plain mean and stupid. It really isn't fair to cancel a show of this style, in this manner. It's like only giving us half a book. The Fox Network did the same thing with Point Pleasant last year. Not to mention they didn't show it on a consistent basis, just as with Point Pleasant. If you are going to commit to airing a nighttime soap opera, at least commit to resolving the main storyline before cancelling it. Why will any of us continue to watch new series if we are going to be continually left in the lurch? Sometimes a show takes a while to build an audience, especially one that requires you to know what went on in the beginning. You have to give people time to catch up with reruns. I really didn't catch on to Desperate Housewives until the first season was almost over. I had to see the earlier episodes first. Please ABC, at least finish the storyline on DVD. It would make a great boxed set. The show was far superior to Taken, and I am sure would sell well.

Skip The Da Vinci Code If You Read The Book

We saw The Da Vinci Code on Friday night with our friend, Danny. The theater was packed. I thought the movie was O.K. I really didn't picture Tom Hanks as the lead character when I read the book. He was better than I thought he would be. I The Da Vinci Code.jpgthink seeing the movie after you have read the book is very anticlimatic. There is little pay off. The sense of discovery that made the book fun is lost when you know the answers to the puzzles. We had a stupid couple behind us that kept saying what was going to happen before it did, so even if I forgot any twists they made sure to remind me...and everyone else. There was no stopping them. I did the "turn your head" around several times... even let out a loud "shush", but they were oblivious. At one point, I even said a "thank you", when they told me a character was going to die in a minute. People do not have consideration for anyone but themselves these days. It is really frustrating. As I thought with the book, the first half of the movie is the best. The story kinda loses me after they get to London. I really think that if you read the book, you can definitely skip the movie.

Rascal

It has been one week since Rascal has come to our home! He is 3 years old and fits his name well. He has been pretty good in the house and Daisy gets along with him. It is going to take some transition time until he learns all the ropes. He doesn't replace Jake, but adds a new dynamic to our family!!!

Windows Media Player 11 Beta Stinks!

I can't believe what a memory hog Windows Media Player 11 Beta is! If you are having it search your folders for updated information, it completely slows your computer down, I can't even search the web while it is searching and I have a Pentium D, Dual Core! The same thing happens if you want it to look for files that are no longer linked. When you scroll down your list of pretty album covers, it has to play catch up too. Microsoft should have taken a look at Google's Picassa imaging software..that flies! Plus there is now no way to just add only one folder quickly. It really needs an import from another library function as well. I really wanted to like it, but I found Windows Media Player 10 easier to use. Itunes still beats it hands down for speed and ease of use.

Clay Aiken looks like a young Wayne Newton.

Lisa Tucker has a beautiful voice and should have gone further.

Chris Daughtry is not an original.

Meatloaf has Benign Essential Tremor.

David Hasselhoff LOVES Taylor Hicks.

Toni Braxton is a drag queen.

Mary J Blige is a stage hog.

Kelli Pickler should get a tv show.

Dionne Warwick is still interesting.

Prince has found the fountain of youth.

Burt Bacharach's face is scary.

Brokenote Cowboys can sing.

Katharine McPhee Stuck With Horrible Song!

Yuk! The producers of American Idol really want Taylor to win! The song they gave Katharine for a single release was pure dreck! The one they gave Taylor was better, but not that much. My biggest complaint was that they had different songs! In past AI's they would have a sing off and each would have to bring their spin to the same song the producer's gave them. This made the playing field even. Katharine's song was far more complex and had more range than Taylor's. He would have been challenged with it's range. Taylor's song would have been a breeze for Katharine. I predict Taylor to win, because his fans are rabid. I predict Katharine will have a longer and more lucrative career.

My Blog Theme

I have tried various new blog themes and have returned to the old standby. I love the new wordpress widget themes, but my old gal was not wigitized. I can now say that she is! It took a bit of research, but I was able to update it. Now it is much easier to change my sidebar information whenever I want! If some new theme comes out that has everything I want and it works I might switch. So far, I haven't found it yet.

Last.fm

I have just started using a great online radio service called Last.fm. It keeps track of your likes and dislikes and creates your own personal radio station! It even creates a rss feed which lets subscribers know what you are listening to. Perfect for us bloggers who share everything!!

Please America...Vote for Katharine McPhee!

katharine mcphee.jpg

Congrats to Kat for making the final two! Woo Hoo! I was really sad to see Elliott go though. He really is an amazing talent american idol final four.jpgand human being. I did not think this was his best week. I am so sick of Taylor Hicks's gyrations! He is nowhere near as versatile as Katharine. He does what he does well, but it gets tiring after a while. And I do not like the gray hair! My friend Danny thinks he looks like the spawn of Rex Reed and George Clooney! I have to agree. Kat's voice was definitely the best of the top four. She suffered from some bad songs and some flubbed lyrics, but she always made a connection with the song. Only Chris was the other of the four to do the same. Elliot and Taylor can sing well, but they are not consistent in making a real connection to the audience, or the lyrics. Kat always comes off as if she is a star. She is pure magic! Please America! Vote for the most talented! Vote for Katharine McPhee!

Katharine McPhee's Over The Rainbow Performance?

Flawless.

New Cairn Terrier

rascal.jpgWe have decided to rescue another little Cairn Terrier. We miss Jake terribly, and Daisy (our other Cairn) seems depressed now that she is all alone. We are working with several rescue groups trying to find a good match for our family. One of these furkids is Rascal from Rhode Island. He is the same color as our Daisy and seems like he might be a good match. We are also looking at a cute little fella named Keeth.keeth.jpg Keeth is in New Jersey and it would be a bit of a haul to go get him, but we may see him if things don't work out with Rascal. We are working with the Cairn Rescue League who has Rascal, and Cairn Rescue USA, who has Keeth. We have also put in an application with the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network from which we got Jake in 2001. All of the Cairn rescue organizations go out of the way to save Cairns from shelters and puppy mills, as well as from people who can't take care of their furballs anymore. They spend countless hours of time and money saving these animals. They also do not just anyone adopt the dogs. 4 references, a vet reference, and even a home safety visit, are required before a prospective owner is even considered! They really want these babies to find forever homes and really try their best to match the right dog with the right family. Pictures of course will appear here when our new member of the family arrives!!

Wordpress Widgets

I love Wordpress Widgets! I have downloaded new themes that support them and I am totally addicted! It is so nice to be able to make a change in one sidebar and then see it implemented in whatever of the new themes I choose. I won't even think of using a new theme unless it is wigitized!!

20th Week On the Diet

Current Weight: 262 lbs Weight Loss This Week: 0 lbs Total Weight Loss So Far: 3 lbs

What Diet? I have totally slipped into my old ways! It is amazing that I haven't gained back all the weight I have lost so far. I haven't been exercising, eating fruits or vegetables, or cutting my portion sizes. I thought by now I would be well on my way to a healthier me. I just can't seem to make permanent change to my habits.  This is the first time in my life that I really tried to lose and have failed. I really think what they say is true. As you get older, it gets harder to lose weight. I don't know if it is a physiological reason, or that you just have had that many years of bad habits. Whatever the case, I have a serious problem! I really have to get into it's a "now or never mentality". If I don't, I fear that I will be desitined for my first heart attack, or diabetes, or who knows what! I just wish there was a way to fill me and keep me satisfied. More is never enough, and instant gratification takes too long. Well...I am off to get a snack. Pavlov's dog is alive and well.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe's Georgie Henley and Judy Garland

Just watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on DVD. I really loved Georgie Henley's Performance. She is adorable and reminds me of a young Judy Garland!

Tom Cruise's Orthodontia

Since getting my braces on last week I have really been aware of people's smiles. I just saw Mission Impossible III with Tom Cruise and instead of reviewing the movie I will review Tom's teeth! Tom got much publicized braces in 2002 and I must say he was ripped off!  The midline of his two front teeth is way off.  I kept noticing it in the movie and it was really distracting to me. Click on this recent picture and you will see what I mean. I guess even if you are famous, you can still get bad dental work!

Good-Bye Jake

Jake.jpgToday I had to put my beloved Cairn Terrier, Jake, down. He had been coughing for about two weeks and I feared the worst. I tried to listen to his heart last night and could not hear it. His breathing seemed off the last few days also.  After visiting my local vet, he sent Jake and me to Angell Memorial for more tests. The doctor there confirmed the worst. Poor Jake had a large mass in his left lung that was pushing his trachea and heart away from where they should be. I wanted to take him home for the last few days, but since he was oxygen deprived, they though we should let him go.  I held his head in my arms and told him he was a "good boy" over and over until he passed away peacefully away by injection. I feel so sad.  He was such a good dog. We got him in 2001 from the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network. He was so lovable and I will miss him terribly. You can read more about Jake and his rescue here.

Braces

Yesterday I had braces installed on my lower teeth! I have been having problems with my TMJ over the past few months.  My front bottom teeth and front top teeth have become almost edge to edge! I believe this all started when I was fitted for a CPAP machine last December. I have always slept with my mouth open, but had to learn to sleep with my mouth closed while wearing the CPAP mask. I am pretty sure my tongue has been pushing on my bottom teeth and over time has moved them forward. My top front teeth did not move because I have been wearing a retainer on them at night  for the past 25 years! I really wish that I had know that keeping my mouth closed at night could move my teeth. I would have had a retainer made for the bottom teeth. As it stands now, I will be about a year and a half in the braces and then will have to wear a retainer on the bottom for the rest of my life.  I was lucky to escape full braces when I was a teenager. My orthodontist worked with me and made removable retainers to position my crooked teeth. At the time I was a beginning actor and couldn't be locked down to braces. I think I maybe should have paid extra this time and tried the same thing. I really didn't realize how hard it was going to be to eat and floss! I hope I get used to them...right now I am resisting the temptation to go get wire cutters and solvent remover!!!!
